 FRIAS Fellowship Programmes

 

FRIAS supports outstanding researchers from all disciplines with individual fellowships. The funding provides researchers from the University of Freiburg or other national and international research institutions with the opportunity to fully concentrate on their research project for a limited period of time.


FRIAS EARLY CAREER FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME

Early Career fellowships are available to researchers from any nationality and discipline based in Freiburg, Germany and abroad. The fellowships enable the researchers to carry out their own research projects. Full-time presence at FRIAS is expected. 

Who: Researchers up to eight years after completion of their PhD

with

(a) six months’ research experience after their PhD at academic institution(s) in a country different from the country of their first academic degree

OR

(b) received a Master/PhD or equivalent in a country different from the country of their first academic degree. Short stays such as holidays, conferences or summer schools are not considered.

Disciplines: Applications are welcome from all disciplines that can be supported at the University of Freiburg. 

Period of funding: 4 to 10 months (between September 2024 and August 2025)

Senior fellowships are available to researchers from any nationality and discipline based in Freiburg, Germany and abroad. The program is aimed at scientists with at least eight years of postdoctoral research experience, holders of tenure-track professorships, and full-time professors. The fellowships enable the researchers to carry out their own research projects. Full-time presence at FRIAS is expected.

Who: Scientists with doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and at least eight years of research experience

with

(a) six months’ research experience after their PhD at academic institution(s) in a country different from the country of their first academic degree

OR

(b) received a Master/PhD/ received tenure or equivalent in a country different from the country of their first academic degree. Short stays such as holidays, conferences or summer schools are not considered.

Disciplines: Applications are welcome from all disciplines that can be supported at the University of Freiburg. 

Period of funding: 3 to 8 months (between September 2024 and August 2025)

This senior fellowship is available to researchers from all nationalities, who are based in Africa, exclusively from disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. The fellowships enable the researchers to carry out their own research projects. Full-time presence at FRIAS is expected.

Who: Scientists with doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and at least eight years of post-doctoral experience or a tenured professorship or equivalent permanent position

with

(a) at least six months’ research experience after their PhD at academic institution(s) in a country different from the country of their first academic degree 

AND

(b) have received a Master/PhD or received tenure or equivalent in an African country.  

Applicants must provide an academic partner at the University of Freiburg. 

Disciplines: Humanities and Social Sciences 

Period of funding: 7 months (between September 2024 and August 2025)

Application currently not possible (Deadline: September 28, 2023).
