FRIAS as a host institution

FRIAS offers fellowships for scientists with own funding for uninterrupted research visits of more than two months. FRIAS assumes the customary duties of a host institute and provides additional financial assistance. The Institute promotes candidates supported by renowned funding programmes - e.g. Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), Heisenberg Grant, Volkswagen Foundation, European Research Council (ERC), German Research Foundation (DFG) - which require a declaration of support from a host institute.

FRIAS provides a fully equipped working desk at the Institute and additional support for the research work as well as a very stimulating intellectual atmosphere. In return at least an 80% presence at FRIAS, participation in the academic programme, and, more generally, a willingness to engage in an exchange with the FRIAS community is expected. Please note that most FRIAS activities fall within the period from October to July.

  • How to apply: In order to apply for a fellowship a motivation letter (stating the reason for choosing FRIAS and the envisioned period), a current CV and a short description of the project is needed. The complete application should be provided in the form of one single PDF-file.

  • Disciplines: Open to all disciplines
  • When to apply: Enquiries and applications can be made at any time, but should be received at least 4 months before the envisioned research period at FRIAS. FRIAS will respond promptly with a decision.
