This conference brings together a group of international scholars working in literary, cultural, and visual studies to think about the state and stakes of humanistic inquiry today. Responding both to the questions perennially posed outside of the academy – about relevance, usefulness, and impact – and to the genealogies of method and the particulars of practice debated across the disciplines, we aim to develop a robust account of how and why the humanities work.
