Diachronic Narratology

Fludernik will explain the setup of her Reinhart-Koselleck-project "Diachronic Narratology".
The project is concerned with a diachronic (rather than synchronic) analysis of narrative patterns, thus establishing a radical departure from traditionally synchronic narratology. There are two major publications planned for the project in addition to essays by the project members: a) a two-volume study of the development of narrative structure between c.1250 and c.1700/1750 on a genre-by-genre basis; and b) a monograph of a theoretical kind, discussing the methodological challenges of the diachronic approach.
