Dinner Speech: Karen Lienkamp (School of Soft Matter Research): "Polymer Chemists have a solution for everything!"
von 18:30 bis 19:30
|Wo||FRIAS Seminar Room, Albertstr. 19|
Synthetic polymers are all around us. Without them, the quality of our life would be significantly reduced. They make up trivial things like water bottles and food packaging, as well as high-tech applications from car components to cell phones and computers. But there are also more subtle applications, such as polymer scaffolds in tissue engineering, polymers for in-vivo drug delivery and stimulus-responsive polymeric systems for sensor applications. In this dinner speech, I will explain what polymers are and discuss their broad applications range, from commodity plastics to current “hot” research areas. I will conclude with data from my own work on antimicrobial and antibiofouling polymers for biomedical applications.
