Mostafa Zarei received his B.Sc degree in pure Chemistry in 1998 and his M.Sc in Analytical Chemistry in 2001. Then, he started to work at the Pesticide Industrial Research Center in Iran where he expanded his knowledge on different liquid and gas chromatography systems for application in pesticide analysis. In May 2005, he started his Ph.D studies at the Institute of Medical Physics and Biophysics in University of Muenster under supervision of Prof. Dr. Jasna Peter-Katalinic´. His main Ph.D topic was focused on developing new strategies by combining various mass spectrometric methods with chromatographic techniques towards the analysis of glycolipids in biomedical research. These techniques included nanoESI-QTOF MS/MS, UV and IR-MALDI MS as well as their related hyphenated techniques like nanoLC-QTOF MS/MS, nanoLC-MALDI MS and Chip based nanoESI-QTOF MS/MS. Since February 2009, he is working in the group of Dr. Joern Dengjel in FRIAS as a postdoc fellow.

Global and Site-Specific Phosphorylation Dynamics during Autophagy

Autophagy is one of the main mechanisms that is responsible for degradation of cellular proteins and organelles. A cell may undergo autophagy by cell stress such as amino acid starvation or by drug treatment. Phosphorylation, one of the most important posttranslational modifications, can regulate many divergent processes in the living cell ranging from the control of enzymatic activity to protein-protein interactions. There are still many unanswered questions regarding phosphorylation-dependent signaling events during autophagy. Therefore, we decided to evaluate site-specific phosphorylation dynamcis during autophagy to better understand cellular decision finding during a vital metabolic pathway.
