CV

Elisabetta Nadalutti studied political integration, European politics, governance and citizen participation at the University of Bath. She was awarded a Master in Contemporary European Politics in 2007. Afterwards, she obtained her PhD at the University of Bath with a Thesis entitled ‘The Impact of Europeanization: Governance and Citizenship in the Upper Adriatic Cross-Border Region’.

After passing her Viva Elisabetta was awarded an Erasmus Mundus post-doctoral scholarship and became a researcher at the Centre for European Studies, at The Australian National University (Canberra) and she started a comparative research between different models of regionalism and integration in the EU and ASEAN. She was later a visiting researcher at UNU-CRIS in Brugge (Belgium) and Marie Curie and Fonds National de la Recherce Luxembourg Post-doctoral Research Fellow, at the Université du Luxembourg. She then developed a new research at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg, Centre for Global Cooperation Research entitled ‘Within the EU-ASEAN cross-border regionalism: cooperation with(out) an ethical cross-border governance? A comparative perspective analysis’.

Presently, her research focuses on EU border regions and Southeast Asian growth triangles, in an effort to compare and understand trans-regional integration in Europe and Southeast Asia at the sub-national level. She examines political, economic and ethical issues related to trans-regional integration models relating them to the ‘supra-national’ level (ASEAN for the Southeast Asian case, and the EU for EU border regions). She is presently collaborating with the Association of European Border Regions in Berlin in order to empirically investigate these issues.

‘DEvelopment in Border Areas and iTs Ethics’ (DEBATE)

DEBATE focuses on ethical border development in border regions within the supranational contexts of the European Union (EU), and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) enriched by philosophical and ethical approaches to border development. DEBATE aims first at investigating the ethics of border-development, and sub-regional border formation in EU, and ASEAN micro-regions through new-regionalism approaches, and the philosophical framework of cosmopolitanism. Second, at advancing research agenda on the role of EU, and ASEAN border activities in promoting development, cohesion and responsible participation within border zones. Finally, at contributing to raise awareness on development in border studies by furthering knowledge of and by providing the possibility to acquire insights into new understandings and new values that shape working lives, and society as a whole in a globalized world.
